- Spot welding: mainly used in metal sheet welding, common in the automotive industry. Robots perform precise and repeatable welding points to join components.
- Wire Welding (MIG/MAG): it uses a continuous metal wire which is cast to join the pieces. This type of welding is very versatile and suitable for various materials such as steel, aluminium, and alloys.
- TIG welding: it offers greater precision than wire welding and is used for thinner materials or welds that require high aesthetic quality.
- Laser welding: uses a laser beam to melt materials. It is ideal for very precise welding and for materials which are difficult to weld with conventional techniques.
Main components
- Welding robots: the robots used for these applications have articulated arms with a welding torch mounted on the end. They are programmed to perform precise welding paths.
- Power source: provides the energy needed for welding. It can vary according to the type of welding (MIG, TIG, Laser).
- Locking and positioning systems: devices that keep the pieces to be welded in the correct position during operation. They can be static or rotating to allow welding of different angles.
- Control and Programming Systems: software that manages the programming of robots, allowing to define welding paths, speed, current intensity, and other parameters.
- Aspiration and purification system for the fumes produced, installed on board robots or by means of hoods placed near the welding area.
Applications
- Automotive Industry: one of the main sectors where soldering islands are used. Used for the production of bodies, frames and other metal components.
- Aerospace: for the construction of lightweight and durable structures such as wings, fuselages and tanks.
- Shipbuilding: used for the construction of hulls, internal structures and specific components of ships.
- Production of household appliances: for the assembly of metal housings and other structural parts
Advantages
- Accuracy and Repeatability: the robots ensure consistent, high quality welds, minimizing human errors.
- Increased Productivity: robotic welding islands can operate 24/7 with reduced cycle times, increasing production capacity.
- Reduction of operating costs: thanks to automation, the need for specialized labor is reduced and material consumption is optimized.
- Safety: operators are less exposed to welding hazards such as UV radiation, fumes and heat.
These robotic welding cells represent an advanced solution for improving quality and efficiency in welding processes, especially in industries where precision and speed are critical.
